Paul Matter

Paul Matter is a New Delhi-based lighting design studio founded by Nikhil Paul in 2016. The studio is known for its sculptural and handcrafted lighting pieces that blend traditional techniques with experimental craftsmanship, form with function, and detail with the ordinary. Combining timeless visual language with materials like aged brass, copper, stone, leather, and blown glass, Paul Matter creates designs that refine with age and stand the test of time.

 

Nikhil Paul, originally from Zambia and raised in New Delhi, studied industrial and business design in Milan before founding Paul Matter. Working closely with master craftsmen, the studio develops handcrafted products finished with meticulous attention to detail. Its first collection established the studio as one of the world’s premier lighting designers and was featured in 100 Objects of Desire.

 

With acclaimed collections like Tango and Satellite, Paul Matter’s work has been showcased at prestigious exhibitions, including Wallpaper Handmade at Milan’s Salone del Mobile and India Design ID. Featured in leading publications, the studio’s designs illuminate inspiring spaces worldwide, from Brussels and London to Los Angeles, Seoul, and Australia.
